The task for our pavilion project was to Design a small-scale temporary building expressing and reflecting the changes happening to the waterfront of Dundee, specifically the site of the new V&A Museum of Design, Dundee.

My reflective pavilion project is focusing on the results of the current urban and industrial regeneration of Dundee’s waterfront and how it is effecting the residents of the city. The concept behind my design is based around the fact that in an ever changing city such as Dundee, as it goes through the waterfront regeneration, it is very easy to lose yourself and get caught up in everything that is going on. My aim is to provide a small pavilion in the centre of all of this chaos that gives people a chance to reconnect and find themselves again. I have been looking into the idea of reflection in a physical and mental aspect and feel that this is a very important area that I need to focus on, because I feel that in order to find yourself in such a fast changing environment you need somewhere to just sit down and reflect. Reflection plays an important part in my project because I am looking at all of the different possibilities and not just the use of physical reflection.  A designer that has used a similar concept in some of their pieces is Jim Lambie, his installation ‘A forest’ which features tessellated panels of spray painted chrome peeled back to reveal lots of different background colours has had a big influence on the way I have designed my pavilion because it helped change the way I look at how mirrors can be used in a design to manipulate how someone perceives the building.
