For this project, our brief stated that we had to design the interior and facade, of a 20m x 5m x 12.5m terraced house in London, for our chosen personas. The aim for the personas was to be different to us as a person to help push us out of our comfort zone and try different design ideas, this is to help us when it comes to having clients in the future because they will not always want a dwelling designed to our taste and as a designer you should understand that.
I designed this dwelling as a space for comfort and relaxation, it is a place where the occupants can take a break from their work lives as fine artists and forget about the outside world. I wanted to have a simple layout therefore have used minimalism as one of my main inspirations, especially with the colour scheme. The design is neutral yet stylish with sculptural pieces throughout the house and a subtle hint of the three primary colours in some of the appliances and homeware. These colours are to help link the neutral colour scheme to one of the most basic aspects of the work of an artist.
My overall design gives off a sophisticated feel through the use if a minimalist theme and includes few sculptural appliances such as light shades and furniture, this helps emphasis the fact that it is the home of fine artists. I wanted to make sure that colour was a feature in this design somehow without it being too overpowering, to do this I only included colour in small objects such as pillows, light shades and small appliances. I think the design works very well together to give off the idea of being a place to relax and feel like you are at one away from the stresses of work and everything going on in the outside world.
